Twisted Bits

about us

Twisted Bits was organized in 1998 by three friends in western New York state. We met as Computer Science majors at the State University of New York College at Fredonia, and Twisted Bits is an outgrowth of a previous project that we were all involved in by the name of Digital Information Software Engineering. Our main scope of interest at the time was the development of 3D games. Twisted Bits Internet Services was born out of frustration with the lack of the type of Internet service we needed in our area. We decided to put up a server to support our software development efforts and offer webhosting as a way to offset some of the costs.

Work Experience Working professionally as a Software Engineer and Consultant I have worked with / under many platforms (Windows, Unix/Unix-like, Macintosh, AS/400, etc.) using a wide range of languages (Java, C++, C, SQL, JavaScript, HTML, XML, etc.), interfaces (JDBC, ODBC, Servlets, ISAPI, CGI, Sockets, etc.), and development tools (Visual C++, Visual Age, PowerBuilder, etc.) to create several types of software (Visual Layout Editors, Web based Enterprise (Intranet) Applications, Software Development Tools, Hand Scanner Software, etc.).

Separate of work, I spend time designing and developing games with small groups as well as developing tools and engines for those groups to work with.

I have also done both professional and casual teaching / training.
Interests For me, software is first and formost an interest and only secondarily a job. My main interest is software development (I am a programmer at heart). Many of my skills were developed seperate of work and college (in casual study groups or studying on my own). My professional work is mostly an offshoot of my personal studies / interests.

Particularly I have interests in creating software development tools / libraries as well as exploring software engineering techniques. During the last few years I have become more interested in game development, especially now with the rapid advancement of this field (3D acceleration and other multimedia elements, online gaming). And, of course, I enjoy escaping into the worlds created within computer games.

Work Experience I have worked as a network and systems administrator as well as a software engineer for corporations such as Cummins Engine and General Electric as well as both the IT and CS departments at the SUNY College at Fredonia. I also have some teaching experience, having taught topics such as Object Oriented Programming, X programming, Internet usage, and HTML programming, both as a student volunteer and later as a member of the SUNY Fredonia faculty. Apart from my duties here with Twisted Bits Internet Services, I am currently working as a real estate broker, with an occasional consulting/contracting job thrown in for good measure. I also own and run an Internet based motorcycle/automotive aftermarket manufacturing business. (www.steigerperformance.com)
Interests When I can scrape together a few seconds of free time, I enjoy bracket racing my Dakota, mild offroading in my Ram, rumbling around town in my Barracuda, cruising on my Intruder 1400, and flying my Kolb ultralight & the occasional rented light aircraft. Much of my "free time" is consumed by maintaining the Dakota Mailing List (and its web site), along with the Ultralight Home Page and DragTruk. Feel free to check out my personal home page for even more boring info about myself. :-)
